School Ethos & Values

"The school is a very happy environment. School life is packed full of activities where children can develop their creative art and drama skills. Very well run school with a lovely, caring, passionate Head Teacher. Lots of support for parents and children." - Parent

Every Child is Unique

We firmly believe in each unique child and have the utmost ambition for them to achieve highly. We see barriers as challenges to be overcome and work hard as a whole team with our families to ensure each and every child excels.

Our whole ethos is built around good relationships at all levels and we ensure that from the moment a child enters Littletown we create an unbroken line of quality and nurture. We care and we hope it shows to all who come into contact with our team.

We are strategic, driven and forward thinking but we also passionately take note of the little things, small actions which make a huge difference to children and parents and through this approach we endeavour to not miss any opportunity for a marginal gain in attainment. Our core drivers are:

Communication: to know how to express and interact with language and varied vocabulary with confidence, in a range of situations including social, which is appropriate and effective for the context through their choice of form: either spoken, written or online.

Inclusion: to practice and provide equal access for all to be included within our school and wider community, showing consideration, respect and appreciation of all diverse members of our school family and beyond.

Environment: to embrace outdoor learning with a creative approach. Understanding how to create a better world for people and wildlife to live in. Showing an awareness of issues that affect sustainable development of our local and broader environment.

Culture: to learn about the culture of our own country and those of differing nations so we are able to appreciate the diversity within the world. To show respect for this as well as understanding the role culture has played in affecting the heritage of our society. Using all of this knowledge to build a wealthy knowledge of culture capital.

Possibilities: to recognise that offering opportunities results in opening up the world to young people; for children to realise that every chance is achievable. Through metacognition where perseverance, resilience and challenge shine through; high aspirations for all to reach their true potential.

Our values are the core British Values of

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

In addition we value Fairness, Truth, Honesty, Equality, Determination, Belonging, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity and Compassion.

These are all layered into our Littletown curriculum. Our curriculum is detailed and precise as with mixed age classes we must be bespoke in our approach. For our staff we ensure they have a shared understanding of our expectations in terms of teaching, attainment, progression and assessment and we work as one, towards common goals. Our Investors in People Gold award shows that we are driven to achieve together.

We wish our teaching to be creative and teachers have the flexibility and autonomy but this is with a clear focus on good outcomes for all. Our teaching fosters a love for learning for all with planning which works backwards from the point at which each pupil should reach at the end of the academic year. We set high expectations for all tackling misconceptions as they arise.

We focus on the unique child and their voice and experience drives us forward.
