We are readers...

There is a clear approach to ensuring that reading is promoted across school. Pupils talk enthusiastically about their enjoyment of books that they access from the ‘reading spine’ that leaders have carefully created. Pupils are keen to share their favourite books from during their time in school. Reading corners in classrooms are well used and inviting.' OFSTED - 2023

'I like it when the teacher reads a story' Class 2 child.
'Story time is the most important time of the day - we always read our class book before we go home, and I can't wait to read the next chapter each day!' Class 4 child.
'We get to read our own books all the time to the adults in school, the Alien Adventures ones are really exciting!' Class 3 child.
'I always look forward to knowing what our new class book is going to be next half term!' Class 5 child.

Reading is at the heart of all we do at Littletown School. Developing pleasure and a love for reading across classrooms is a golden thread running through our school curriculum and a tool to promoting wellbeing. We develop pupils’ oracy and wider understanding of language, have a systematic approach to phonics and early reading that integrates both decoding and comprehension, develop fluency in reading to support understanding, and use high-quality, thought-provoking texts to expose pupils to an ambitious English curriculum, with a key focus on vocabulary expansion. Reading, writing and oracy are the springboards to life-improving opportunities.
