In March of this year School had a very unexpected delivery of many kilos of potatoes. John, from our very helpful and supportive Garden Centre at the top of Eddercliffe thought we might make use of his pare potatoes. It would have been easy to send them straight to the kitchen for cooking however, Mrs Wensley had a different idea - the potatoes were to be split between the Classes and she set us a 1 Hour Potato Challenge'. We could do whatever we wanted with the potatoes, be as creative as we wanted so long as it was done within an hour and details submitted back to her by St Patrick's Day.
We had some amazing ideas, potatoes in Early Years learnt how to become a Leprechaun, Class 2 made mash potato and cabbage Easter chicks, Class 3 taught the potatoes an African dance, Class 4 created a 'Spud City' (with Mash Monster and Super Spud), Class 5 used the potatoes to recreate the final battle from Narnia and Class 6 had a treasure hunt to find the missing potatoes (inspired by the lack of potatoes in the Irish Potato Famine) - the prize at the end being some jewellery made out of, yes, potatoes!
We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, however there could only be one winner and that was... CLASS 4! Well done to Miss Jarratt, Mrs Woodside and all the children.
