The Healthy Schools award is made up of two parts:-

The National Award and the Kirklees Award over the last couple of years our school has achieved both Awards.

Furthermore our kitchen has been given the Kirklees Gold Award for healthy lunches

 Well done to everyone!

We have an Eco group which forms part of our enrichment afternoons, during this time we help to take care of the school grounds, tidying, weeding and planting bulbs and flowers.  We have three raised vegetable beds, last summer we were successful in growing runner beans and our own potatoes.

The school has also been awarded with the Active Mark for P.E. during the school day and for the sports clubs after school.

This Autumn we have planted beetroot, cabbage and parsley.  We spent many weeks clearing out the weeds that had grown over summer and things look a lot better now we have planted pansies.  We are looking forward to seeing the bulbs grow when Spring arrives.

We have various bird boxes and a hedgehog box around our school field to encourage the wildlife and we have a designated area with lots of logs creating a habitat for insects.  As Winter closes in we will be hanging out 'fat balls' so the birds don't starve.

Last year we started recycling suitable produce such as the remains from our fruit in our compost bin, hopefully next year we will be able to use it on our raised beds.

And finally - inside school we have 'Eco Monitors' who turn off lights, computers and check taps.  We also have monitors who collect the waste paper each day for recycling.
